Plant Care Specialist (Part-Time) – Austin, Texas

New Native Gardens is building a Dream Team of individuals to help us keep our weekly maintenance customers’ plants “showroom ready”. We are beginning by looking for team members with flexible schedules and interest in working up to two days per week (Wednesdays and Thursdays preferred). These individuals will work alongside the New Native Gardens founders under the training and supervision of Creative Director, Matt McKenna. Join our team as we service the interior and exterior container plantings of some of the most beautiful properties in one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and perform maintenance and care of interior and exterior plantings at commercial and residential client sites; watering, dusting, pruning, deadheading, pest identification and treatment as necessary. Keeping plants in “showroom” condition while preserving the original plant designs.
  • Timely communication to Creative Director regarding failing plants or plants requiring extra attention in subsequent visits
  • Load and unload vehicles with plant materials, tools, and supplies
  • Drive to and from client sites across the greater Austin area in either own transportation or company vehicle as required.
  • Participate in new interior and exterior planting installations as business needs require
  • Keep timely and accurate client records, logging plant maintenance activity daily, including plant material and container inventory, contact information, etc.
  • Prevent damage to surrounding floors, walls, carpet, furniture, etc. from water and/or moisture. Keep client areas and worksites clean and tidy.
  • Pick up plants, supplies and materials at supplier locations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of annuals, perennials, plant materials, design and horticulture is highly desirable but not necessary. Interest in plants and gardening is critical.
  • Personable and professional individual. We like to see previous experience in customer facing roles in some capacity. We want to know that you’ll treat our customers and their personal spaces with the upmost respect.
  • Critical Thinking – we face new problems, big and small, every single day. We want team members unafraid to figure out how to figure it out.
  • Creative Eye – a visual arts or design background (or even just an interest in) is highly desirable. We want team members to be able to independently design plantings under the training and supervision of the Creative Director.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects – bags of soil, large plants, large planters.
  • Ability to drive and have reliable own vehicle. Valid and clean driver’s license required; company vehicle may not always be provided but mileage is always reimbursed.

Things to Know:

  • Compensation: $20-30/hour rate, determined by previous experience
  • Part-time employee. No benefits.
